Xirrus Expands Board, PartnersJanuary 30, 2006 | Post a comment
no ratings MINNEAPOLIS and WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- ADC (Nasdaq:ADCT) (www.adc.com) today announced an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with Xirrus, Inc., creators of the next-generation Wireless LAN Array architecture, to supply its complete family of enterprise-class Wi-Fi solutions as the Digivance(R) WFX product family. Under terms of the agreement, ADC will now offer the Digivance WFX Wireless LAN Array solution to its enterprise customers who seek a scalable, cost-effective solution to deliver in-building Wi-Fi access. With this expansion of the Digivance portfolio, service providers can deliver a complete wireless solution supporting the convergence of wide-area wireless and Wi-Fi technologies for voice and data applications. The Digivance WFX Wireless LAN Array solution combines a wireless LAN switch with up to 16 integrated access points and a high-gain multi-sector antenna system in a single device. This integrated approach delivers greater coverage and bandwidth than alternative solutions, while reducing Wi-Fi equipment requirements and the time and effort involved in planning, deploying and managing a Wi-Fi network. "We're excited about adding the Digivance WFX Wireless LAN Array to our portfolio of wireless offerings," said Mike Pratt, president of ADC's Active Infrastructure Business Unit. "This innovative approach simplifies the deployment of Wi-Fi access and allows carriers and enterprises to deploy wireless networks as efficiently as wired networks. The WFX is a perfect complement to our Digivance Indoor Coverage Solution. We are looking forward to teaming with Xirrus to expand our joint capabilities." In a separate release: WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- Xirrus, Inc., creators of the next-generation Wireless LAN Array architecture, has appointed three new members to its Board of Directors and closed its first round of external venture funding with U.S. Venture Partners and August Capital. Xirrus has also entered into a global Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) agreement with ADC (Nasdaq:ADCT) (see "ADC forms Strategic Alliance With Xirrus" announcement). Xirrus has expanded its Board of Directors adding three industry veterans renowned for strategic vision and technological foresight: Steve Krausz Mr. Krausz is a General Partner at U.S. Venture Partners and has led USVP's investments in Accelerated Networks, Occam Networks, Verity, Rasna, Xylan, Applied Digital Access, Elantec and Micro Linear, all of which became public companies. "We always look to team with companies introducing disruptive technologies that vastly improve the economics and performance metrics of a market," Mr. Krausz says. "We believe Xirrus is the first company to have such an impact in the Wireless LAN space." David F. Marquardt Mr. Marquardt is a co-founder of August Capital and has served on more than 25 boards of directors during his twenty-year venture capital career including Microsoft, Sun, Seagate, Adaptec and Grand Junction Networks. "We have been evaluating the Wireless LAN space for some time and are singularly impressed by Xirrus' innovation," says Marquardt. "The Wireless LAN Array is uniquely suited to help the industry progress to converged wireless/wireline networks that will seamlessly support voice, video and other high capacity applications." Bill Schroeder Mr. Schroeder is a highly regarded Silicon Valley CEO with more than three decades' experience driving operational excellence at companies in all phases of growth including Diamond Multimedia Systems (makers of the Rio MP3 player) and Conner Peripherals. A respected technologist, Mr. Schroeder says Xirrus "embodies an increasingly rare mix of a proven management team, an unrivaled value proposition and the long-term vision needed to grow and lead its market." According to Xirrus' Chief Executive Officer Dirk Gates, the additional capital will be used to accelerate global expansion and market share growth. "We have a tremendous opportunity as the face of Wi-Fi deployments change during the next few years," Gates says. "We plan to capture a large share of the enterprise Wi-Fi market, and the strategic vision and operational experience that our new board members and venture partners bring will help us do so."
