RICHARDSON, Texas -- Navini Networks and its customers have taken the lead in portable broadband commercial deployments worldwide with over 100,000 consumer subscribers. With its 802.16e-like capabilities and its Smart Antenna technology, Navini's gear offers portable high-speed Internet access with plug-and-play, retail friendly distribution that delivers personal broadband to consumers.
Unwired Australia, with the world's largest personal broadband network, had 36,600 self-install subscribers in Sydney at the end of September - just over a year after its launch. "We are planning to expand to other major centers around Australia in 2006 using Navini Networks equipment. We are pleased with our growth. Customers are attracted to the portability of our offering as well as its simplicity in set up and pricing and the fact it does not need a phone line," said David Spence, CEO of Unwired Australia.
"Navini is an excellent partner for us," said Paul Doody, managing director of Irish Broadband. "We are delivering (demonstrating) the 16e-type experience today and are looking forward to the seamless upgrade to 16e with Ripwave-MX." Doody, who carries the Ripwave-MX PC card in his briefcase, is keen to show customers what the experience is like. "You don't need to search for a hotspot or be restricted by it, you just turn it on and go."
"We already offer satellite TV to our customers, and having plug-and-play wireless broadband is the perfect complement," said Patricio Zorrilla president, Ultravision based in Puebla, Mexico. "We have been enjoying WiMAX-like service since 2002, providing our customers in Panama with plug-and-play, portable, NLOS broadband," said Moises N. Abadi, President of Liberty Technologies, one of the earlier commercial deployments of the Ripwave system. He added, "Navini is the most experienced supplier in this technology and that experience is invaluable."
Claims WiMAX lead -- with a WCDMA product! Wow that is amazing.
Had to check where this came from.
Navini issued a press release. Yet even thier release, as slanted and shameless as it is, like most PR, titled it "Navini and its customers lead the world in commercial deployments of pre-mobile WiMAX."
Of course that is also a major mis-use as well. Current product has nothing to do with IEEE 802.16 or WiMAX as defined by a PHY/MAC specification.
BTW as I understand it none of those 100,000 subscriber units can upgrade - only new subscriber units called Ripwave MX can (maybe)upgrade or support dual-mode (CDMA or .16e).
