Troubled wireless LAN switch startup Vivato Inc. has laid off another 22 workers.
Two thirds of the positions are at the firm's engineering center in Spokane, Wash., according to local paper, The Spokesman-Review, the rest at the firm's headquarters in San Francisco.
A spokesperson for Vivato confirmed the cuts and said that the company now has about 77 employees on its books.
This is the second round of layoffs for the struggling startup. In August, the firm laid off between 10 and 14 workers but said it planned to take more sales and marketing staff aboard (see Vivato: Shaken & Stirred Up ).
Earlier this month, the firm confirmed that original CEO Ken Biba had stepped down (see Vivato CEO Steps Down). Don Stalter is currently acting CEO, and the board is expected to appoint a permanent replacement within the next few weeks.
Vivato scored $44.5 million in a third round of funding in June (see Vivato Raises $44.5M). The changes at the company since then have been driven by the investors on the board.
You obviously keep telling yourself that over and over, because it sounds like your starting to really believe yourself now.
It's nothing more than a bunch of AP's couldn't do. At least with the AP solution, you can light up the areas you want, not piss all over hell with some beam you can't control. Vivato's solution still requires Hole Fillers, so where's the advantage dude? You keep forgetting to state that the 1-2 miles is a clear line of uninhibited site. Add a couple trees, and buildings then tell me how far you can go.
Seems like vaporware to me. Has anyone ever seen this product in use? Good luck to all those venture capitalist on getting their money back. Access points are so cheap now and there are drops everywhere to plug them in. How can Vivato compete with that??
Not sure what the management is doing here but the product is the best thing that has happened to this WLAN (WiFi-awful word) 802.11 space in the last 2 years. When combined with WLAN Bridges their Outdoor Units remarkable coverage (100Degrees out 1-2 Miles) allows both Fixed and Portable access to Broadband Data Networks. Excellent for Campus and Small Metro Market coverage. First product we have come across that allows for a true Business Model in WLAN.
Really an exciting product that can be totally disruptive to this space if their team can pull it off.
