MWC 2009: Ericsson Booth Tour

BARCELONA -- Mobile World Congress -- For many companies, just being at the Mobile World Congress is enough, and to have a stand provides greater visibility.

That wasn't enough for Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC), though.

Sure, it had a stand in Hall 8, along with its main rivals, including Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU), Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. , Nokia Siemens Networks , and Nortel Networks Ltd. , each of which we also visited for a 20-minutes photo essay. But when we asked the Ericsson team to pitch their best story and show off their top technology developments, we weren't taken around the stand -- we were shown around an entire hall. Ericsson booked out 6,600 square meters, practically the entire area of Hall 6 at The Fira showgrounds in Barcelona, to show off its wares (and hold a party for customers).

So, Ericsson had the space, but did it have anything worth showing off?

(We're still hoping for the home gateway that has an in-built espresso machine.)

See, this is why I wouldn't have been able to do these stories. Because all they would have to do is go, "We have espresso!" and I'd be like, "Dude!" and I'd sit there for 20 minutes drinking coffee.

So -- excellent job on these stand tours, Ray!
